Semester at Sea

Spring of 2018, I was lucky enough to embark on the 124th voyage of Semester at Sea. I found this program during the summer after my freshman year and knew that I had to make a voyage happen at some point during my college career. For the second semester of my junior year, I spent three and a half months navigating around the world on a ship while continuing my studies. With no idea what I was getting myself into and without knowing a soul on the ship, I boarded the MV World Odyssey, along with 530 other students and began the journey of a lifetime. This experience was unparalleled with any of my other study abroad trips or personal travels. I was able to complete two marketing courses, a business ethics course, and a global studies course on the ship while it traveled around the globe. I was able to incorporate what I was learning in the classroom to what I experienced in the 11 countries we traveled to. I was fortunate enough to embark on this voyage and come away with a broadened perspective and a greater appreciation for myself and others. I met amazing individuals from all over the United States and all over the world throughout the semester. I gained mentors and lifelong friends. Every member of the shipboard community came into this journey as peers, looking forward to completing our college studies on the most incredible global campus one could ask for. We became global citizens surrounded by a close-knit community of fellow shipmates. Living on the ship and applying the knowledge gained from the courses we were taking to the countries we were visiting, made this experience extremely impactful and rewarding. Semester at Sea was a time that allowed me to reflect on myself and the interactions I was having with others and grow as a young adult and as a professional. This experience helped me identify who I am and who I want to be. I am a proud SAS alumni!
